Are your routines empowering you… or holding you hostage?

Are your routines empowering you… or holding you hostage?

It’s in our nature to want to add more.

Our knee-jerk instinct, especially when we feel stuck or disconnected, is to figure out what’s missing.

It’s why we’re in the era of the 5-9 before the 9-5 and ten step skin care routines.

And honestly probably why the average social media advice now is to post twenty times a day.

But, is adding more actually having the effect we want?

Or, are the routines and practices we built to save ourselves, actually holding us hostage.

When Your System Becomes Your Prison

Sometimes the system you built to save yourself becomes the very thing holding you hostage.

Like I am someone wants to optimize my wellness, have a business that runs like clockwork, and achieve everything on my vision board.

But I have to remind myself often of how I ran head first into burnout the first time.

And how I got so exhausted I didn’t know what I was doing anything for.

Part of the exhaustion that comes from burnout is energetic.

Like sure, you wake up, you manage your house, you do your job, and you work your butt off.

You’re exhausted.

Then even when you finally get a chance to rest, it falls flat.

You wonder often, “when is all this hard work going to payoff? When is it going to feel good?”

The Habit Paradox

If I can share with you one piece of advice, it’s one I didn’t notice until a friend said it out loud.

“Adding another ‘good habit’ to a life that already feels heavy will not have the effect you think it will.”

If you want real change right now, you need a circuit-breaker.

When you deliberately disrupt your daily autopilot, in tiny, fun, low-pressure ways, something clicks.

You wake back up.

You remind yourself that you are the one in charge.

A friend of mine started trying these daily disruptions with me recently. By day three, her entire energy shifted. She texted me that she couldn’t remember the last time she felt like this.

When I asked her what “this” was, she said:

“I’m actually excited to wake up.”

Like that feeling you get on vacation.

It was like we remembered what it was all about.

Reclaiming Your Agency

I realized we might feel powerful doing more and adding more.

But for some of us who are already carrying a lot. I find there are more answers in finding ways to feel like we’re carrying less.

If you think about it, what the main thing we want more of?

Time.

Usually we want time to do what?

Exactly!

What we want.

We want to exercise our free will.

The Free Resource: Start Shaking Things Up

And that’s exactly what this guide and the Call Your Power Back Challenge is based on.

When I first started doing this, the hardest part was overthinking it. When you’re already exhausted, even deciding how to shake things up feels like work.

So I made a list of simple, fun “daily disruptions” to pick from on the fly.

I put all of those ideas into a free download for you:
